Appetizer (30 mins) - Introduction to New Words & Phrases
Join us for an engaging session where we delve into the heart of the Polyglot Gathering, a forum for language enthusiasts from around the world. This workshop is designed to not only introduce you to the event but also deepen your understanding through interactive discussions and reviews of essential questions words like what, who, why, and where. The instructor will also share stories and insights from participants from this year's gathering.
Main Course (30 mins) - Now, Let's Practice
Practice your Mandarin conversational skills through a mini-game. Each participant prepares three statements about their Mandarin language learning experiences: two truths and one lie. Volunteers share one statement, and the group asks questions to guess which statement might be false.
Dessert (30 mins) - Open Discussions
Discussion Starter: "当我说西班牙语时，我是西班牙人；当我说普通话时，我是中国人。"
Translation: "When I speak Spanish, I am Spanish; when I speak Mandarin, I am Chinese."
Discussion Questions:
- Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?
- Can the use of a language truly change our identity?
- Do you behave or feel differently in different linguistic environments?
